Visual Inspiration
Creating a mood board helped me visually explore the atmosphere and aesthetic style of my psychological thriller opening. Mood boards are useful because they allow filmmakers to experiment with colour, lighting, and visual tone before production begins.
My mood board includes images of dark lighting, shadows, confined spaces, and reflective surfaces. These elements are commonly found in psychological thrillers because they symbolise tension, secrecy, and psychological instability.
I also included imagery inspired by films such as Black Swan and Se7en, which use strong visual contrasts and symbolic imagery to communicate emotional conflict. These visual references helped me decide on a darker colour palette and more shadow-heavy lighting style.
Developing the mood board clarified the visual direction of my project and ensured that the final film opening will maintain a consistent tone.
