Final Pre-Production Reflection

                                                          Development Review

The pre-production process has been essential in preparing for the filming stage of my psychological thriller opening. Each planning step, from story development and scripting to location scouting and shot planning has helped transform my initial idea into a structured production plan.

Through research and analysis, I gained a deeper understanding of psychological thriller conventions and how filmmakers use visual techniques to create tension. This knowledge influenced many of my creative decisions during the planning process.

Pre-production also helped me anticipate potential challenges and develop solutions before filming began. By organising schedules, planning shots, and conducting risk assessments, I ensured that the production stage will run more smoothly.

Overall, this planning process has strengthened my understanding of filmmaking and allowed me to approach the production stage with a clear creative vision.

Announcement Poster

                                                                Reveal Poster

The announcement poster serves as the first visual introduction to the film. Posters are an important marketing tool because they communicate genre, tone, and atmosphere through imagery and design.

My poster will use dark lighting and minimalistic design to reflect the psychological thriller genre. Symbolic imagery may be included to hint at the themes of control and psychological conflict.

The title placement, colour palette, and typography will also contribute to the overall tone of the poster. A well-designed poster helps attract audience attention while maintaining the mysterious atmosphere of the film.

Copyright and Use of Royalty-Free Materials

                                                                No-Royalty Content

Understanding copyright is an important aspect of media production, as it ensures that all content used within a project is legal and ethically sourced. Copyright laws protect original creators by preventing their work from being used without permission.

For my film opening, I made the decision to use only copyright-free and royalty-free materials, including music and any additional assets. This approach ensures that my production does not infringe on any intellectual property rights and reflects professional media practices.

In addition to external royalty-free sources, I also used materials available within the editing application itself, such as built-in sound effects and audio tracks that are licensed for free use. These in-app resources are specifically designed for creators and can be used safely without violating copyright restrictions.

Using these types of materials demonstrates an understanding of how independent and low-budget productions operate. Many filmmakers rely on royalty-free libraries and built-in assets to create high-quality content while avoiding legal complications.

Social Media Introduction

                                                                     Digital Debut

Social media has become an essential tool for promoting media products and connecting with audiences. To simulate the marketing strategies used in the media industry, I created a social media account dedicated to my film project.

This platform can be used to share updates about the production process, behind-the-scenes content, teaser clips, and promotional posters. By using social media as part of the project, I can demonstrate an understanding of how modern media products are marketed and distributed.

The social media account also helps create a sense of authenticity, as many real films use similar platforms to build anticipation before their release.

Behind The Scenes (BTS)

                                                                      Creation Process

Although I didn’t capture live behind-the-scenes footage during filming, I have recreated key parts of the process to show how my film opening was produced and the decisions I made.

To begin with, I set up my camera again in the original location to demonstrate how I framed certain shots. This helped show how I used different camera angles, such as close-ups and mid-shots, to create meaning and guide the audience’s attention. For example, some shots were carefully framed to focus on the character’s emotions, while others were wider to establish the setting.

I also recreated the positioning of the camera and actors to explain how I achieved specific shots. This includes showing how distance, angle, and movement were used to make the scene more visually interesting. These choices were important in making the opening feel realistic and appropriate for the genre.

During filming, one of the main challenges I faced was controlling the lighting setup. As I was using artificial lighting, I had to carefully position lights to avoid harsh shadows and ensure the subject was clearly visible. This required some adjustment of angles and distances to achieve a balanced and consistent look across all shots. I also had to make sure the lighting matched between different takes so that the final sequence looked continuous.

Another challenge was getting the timing and performance right, which required repeating shots to achieve the best result.

In addition to this, I included screenshots from the editing process to show how the final sequence was constructed. This demonstrates how I organised clips on the timeline, adjusted the pacing, and ensured continuity between shots. Editing played a key role in shaping the final outcome, especially in creating a smooth and engaging opening.

Overall, even though I did not record live BTS footage, recreating these elements allowed me to clearly present my production process. It also helped me reflect on the technical and creative decisions I made, such as camera work, framing, and editing, which all contributed to the final product.

Budgetting (Budget Sheet)

                                                                  Expense Planning

Although my film opening is a small-scale student production, budgeting is still an important part of the planning process. Budget planning helps ensure that resources are used efficiently and that the production remains realistic within available financial limits.

Most of the equipment used for filming is already available, which helps reduce costs. However, small expenses may include transportation, props, and printing materials for planning documents.

Creating a budget sheet also reflects how professional media productions manage financial resources carefully. By documenting potential costs, I can ensure that the project remains organised and financially manageable.

Risk Assessment Report

                                                          Safety Evaluation Report

A risk assessment is an essential part of any media production because it helps identify potential hazards and ensures that appropriate safety measures are taken. Even small-scale productions must consider health and safety to protect everyone involved in the filming process.

During filming, potential risks may include tripping over cables or equipment, restricted movement in confined spaces, and the use of lighting equipment that may generate heat. By identifying these risks beforehand, I can implement precautions such as securing cables, maintaining clear pathways, and ensuring that equipment is used safely.

Conducting a risk assessment demonstrates professional responsibility and ensures that the filming environment remains safe for both the cast and crew.
