Transforming Ideas
Throughout the planning process, I carefully analysed various psychological thriller films and media texts in order to identify techniques that could inspire my own production. Inspiration is an important part of the creative process, as it allows filmmakers to learn from existing media while still developing original ideas.
For example, films such as Black Swan and Se7en use close-up shots and restricted framing to create feelings of discomfort and psychological intensity. I plan to incorporate similar techniques in my film opening by using close-ups to capture subtle emotional reactions from the characters.
I was also inspired by the psychological themes found in Death Note, particularly the exploration of moral conflict and internal struggle. While my narrative is different, the idea of exploring the protagonist’s psychological state influenced how I approached character development.
By analysing these media texts, I was able to identify specific visual and narrative techniques that could enhance the effectiveness of my own film opening.
