Story Ideas

                                                                  Narrative Ideas

Before deciding on my final narrative, I explored several potential story ideas that could work effectively as a psychological thriller film opening. Brainstorming different concepts allowed me to experiment with themes, character dynamics, and narrative structures before committing to a final idea.

One early concept involved a character discovering a mysterious notebook inspired by the psychological tension seen in Death Note. Another idea explored the concept of unreliable memory, where the protagonist slowly realises that their perception of reality may not be accurate. While these ideas were interesting, I ultimately decided to focus on a narrative centred around emotional abuse within a parent-child relationship.

This idea was particularly effective because psychological thrillers often explore internal conflict and mental instability. By setting the story within a domestic environment, the narrative becomes more realistic and relatable, making the tension feel more unsettling. Instead of relying on physical violence or action, the opening will focus on subtle psychological discomfort created through silence, body language, and framing.

This concept also allows me to integrate important genre conventions such as restricted narration, symbolic imagery, and emotional tension. By carefully developing this idea during the planning stage, I was able to create a strong foundation for my film opening.
